«I only know how to approach a place by walking, for what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heart of the known awaits just around the corner.»

«The Carnival of Basel, affectionately known as “the three most beautiful days,” is an integral part of the city’s cultural tapestry and the biggest Carnival in Switzerland. With roots tracing back to the 14th century, it’s a vibrant demonstration of Basel’s resilient spirit and communal harmony. As winter recedes, the city bursts into life, celebrating the arrival of spring in a manner that’s uniquely Basel.»

The Carnival of Basel features parades, music, costumes, and traditional masked characters. At the evening before the traditional carnival starts at Liestal in Switzerland there is the «Chienbäseumzug». This is a parade with a lot of fire, smoke and spectacle. Man and women are carrying heavy burning brooms made up from wood while others pulling carts filled up with burning wood through the village. Many specators enjoy this beautiful event.
